The next step for bitcoin is to become mainstream through services that bring solutions to day to day life for consumers and merchants. This is what co-founder Fred Ehrsam tells me is precisely the strategy for his bitcoin based platform Coinbase.

The company provides three services: a place for people to buy and sell bitcoin, a wallet service to receive, store, and send the digital currency, and a PayPal type solution for merchants to be able to sell their products and get paid in bitcoin.

But the key of their strategy is that they are doing all this the “friendly way”. They are based in San Francisco and they are working with the banking system and regulators so that everybody is in the same page so consumers and merchants can feel comfortable they will not have problems or surprises of any type in the future by using their services.
